Roughmoor Lane Planning Application

Roughmoor Lane Housing Planning Application

This application is now expected to come before the Planning East committee on Tuesday 2nd December. The committee meets in the council chamber in Shepton Mallet and normally starts at 2pm (Note: 2pm not 4pm as incorrectly stated in the PEW). The agenda will be confirmed nearer the time.

The application will be decided by the planning committee and not by officers because the parish council have made strong objections. Their concerns are summarised here.

The planning committee meeting on 2nd Dec is a public meeting. The parish council will be allowed to give reasons why the application should be refused and is also proposing to ask a number of people from the village to speak on key concerns. To try and coordinate messaging, avoid duplication and agree a short list of speakers we are holding a meeting in the village hall on Sunday  16th Nov at   5pm. Please come along if you would like to volunteer for a speaking slot or listen to the proposed messaging.

The parish council recognises that individuals may hold different views and that they are perfectly entitled to attend and seek to express them

The Somerset Council Planning Committee are local people. They recognise when they see and hear the strength of local feeling so please come along if this is important to you.

The ‘summary’ presented to me today gives a devastating, thorough critique of the current Roughmoor Lane application. I will try to attend the meeting on 16th November, but should this be prevented, I would like you to add my personal rejection of the scheme to your submission. I am Parish Paths Liaison Officer for Westbury sub Mendip. In my area of interest, the proposals fail lamentably to make any positive contribution to the provision for walking within the village. It is in fact barely mentioned. This is hardly surprising, since dangers to pedestrians will only increase under this scheme. Particularly in today’s political climate, this is just unacceptable.
