Country walks around Westbury-sub-Mendip

Now the summer is really here, a country walk is a great way to get out and about.

Head for the Westbury-sub-Mendip Community Shop and pick up one of the Westbury Walks leaflets – they’re only 50p. All of the walks start and end at The Cross, so you can get started as soon as you leave the shop.

Each of the 20 walks is described in detail, with clear directions, maps and useful information plus an indication of how long each walk takes. They vary in length, some only a mile or two, others much longer.

If you want to take a picnic wth you, the shop sells a variety of sandwiches, pies and drinks. Or you could go to The Westbury Inn for a post-walk cider.

Westbury Pub welcomes new Landlord

Popped into the pub last night to welcome the new landlord Andy Jones. Speaking to Andy’s father, there are lots of plans in the making from a new kitchen to additional seating and tables and maybe a B&B rooms. Apparently the first action will the departure of the one arm bandit!

On Saturday night I understand Andy is hosting a buffet to welcome everyone and share some plans and hear what we would like to have. Must admit I would love to have a leisurely Sunday morning breakfast with the Sunday papers at the Westbury, with hopefully some good company.
